Assembly Member Scott Gray Encourages North Country Residents to Attend Free NY Citizen Preparedness Training at SUNY Potsdam
POTSDAM, NY — Assembly Member Scott Gray (R-Watertown) is pleased to announce and invite constituents of the 116th District to a free NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program to be held at SUNY Potsdam on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
As severe weather events and emergencies become increasingly frequent, it is vital that New York families have the tools and knowledge necessary to protect themselves. This training, brought to the community through a partnership between Gov. Kathy Hochul, the New York National Guard and SUNY Potsdam, is designed to empower citizens to prepare for, respond to and recover from any disaster, whether natural or man-made.
“Preparing for the unexpected is one of the most important things we can do for our families and our neighbors,” said Assemblymember Scott Gray. “This program provides professional-level training from the New York National Guard that is accessible to everyone. I strongly encourage our local first responders, families and community members to take advantage of this free resource to ensure our North Country communities remain resilient.”
Participants in the course will learn essential life-saving skills, including how to develop a comprehensive family emergency plan and how to properly stock essential supplies. As an added benefit, each family in attendance will receive a free emergency preparedness kit to take home.
