Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman Activates “Vibrant 56 Ready” Preparedness Initiative

In response to ongoing U.S. military engagement overseas and confirmed American casualties, Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman has activated Vibrant 56 Ready, a districtwide community preparedness initiative serving Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights.

“There is no immediate threat to our district,” said Assemblymember Zinerman. “However, in moments of global uncertainty, local government must ensure residents are informed, prepared, and supported.”

Vibrant 56 Ready aligns district outreach with existing city and state emergency readiness infrastructure, strengthens coordination with public agencies and community partners, and expands access to preparedness training and verified information.

Building on the foundation of the AD56 Volunteer Health Corps, which provides CPR and other life-saving certifications, and the office’s Residential Resource programming on flood and fire mitigation, the initiative formalizes a unified preparedness framework to strengthen district wide coordination and communication.

Vibrant 56 Ready serves all residents while ensuring that seniors, NYCHA residents, individuals with disabilities, and residents who rely on life-sustaining medical equipment have direct access to preparedness resources and training opportunities.

The initiative includes:

  • Community workshops on emergency preparedness and life-saving skills
  • Coordination with city and state emergency management agencies
  • A districtwide communication network to elevate verified public guidance
  • Engagement with partners including New York City Emergency Management, New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Bed-Stuy Volunteer Ambulance Corps, American Red Cross Greater New York, One Brooklyn Health, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center, and Medtroop Community Center

The initiative will formally launch with a districtwide Community Preparedness Town Hall where residents can receive guidance, access resources, and learn how to participate in district preparedness efforts.

“Strong local leadership means knowing our community, organizing our resources, and ensuring neighbors have what they need,” Zinerman added. “Preparedness protects our homes, and civic engagement protects our democracy.”
