Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) is congratulating the Town of Bergen on receiving a 2026-27 Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) grant from the New York State Archives.

The grant will support a comprehensive records management project in Bergen, including the hiring of a qualified professional consultant and temporary inventory clerk. Town staff will receive training on state records management requirements, while the project will include an on-site inspection, records inventory, needs assessment and development of a customized records management plan.

“This grant is a great investment in the Town of Bergen and will help ensure that its records are organized, accessible and properly maintained for years to come,” said Hawley. “I congratulate Bergen on receiving this funding and commend its local officials for taking steps to strengthen the town’s records management system and improve the efficiency of its operations.”

Established by state law in 1989, the LGRMIF helps local governments strengthen their records management programs. Bergen’s project will help ensure its records are managed in accordance with the New York State Archives’ LGS-1 records retention and disposition schedule.

“I believe strong records management is essential to effective local government,” said Hawley. “This project will help Bergen modernize its system while meeting state requirements. I will continue working to bring resources like this to our local communities.”
