Sag Harbor, NY – Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni was informed by MTA/LIRR representatives on August 21^st, 2026, of upgrades to East End railroad infrastructure, including: an extended track siding to be built between Amagansett and East Hampton stations, making the additional train platform at the Hampton Bays station a permanent fixture, and lengthening the Hampton Bays track siding to accommodate 12-car trains. These upgrades will accommodate increased two-way travel on existing tracks, paving the way for more trains out east.

This announcement comes on the heels of other recent projects, such as the active construction of an 80-foot-long track siding at Southampton station, the replacement of three local bridges such as Cranberry Hole Road Bridge, and the decision to extend the 5:13 PM Penn Station-Montauk train year-round. These upgrades signal a broader plan by the MTA and New York State to expand the accessibility and utility of public transit on the East End by upgrading our infrastructure to meet rising demand.
