Statement of Assemblywoman Amy Paulin on the Death of Eliot Engel
I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Eliot Engel, a dear friend and an extraordinary public servant who represented our community with distinction for more than three decades. Eliot was honest, hardworking, and intelligent, and he served the people of Westchester, Rockland and the Bronx with dedication and integrity.
I will always be grateful for his friendship and mentorship. Eliot taught me the true meaning of bipartisanship - how to disagree respectfully, find common ground, and bring people together to get things done. Above all, he exemplified what it means to be a public servant: his number one priority was always the people he represented. I also appreciated how, throughout his career, he was a steadfast supporter of Israel and a strong voice for the Jewish community both here in Westchester and across the United States.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. His legacy of service will continue to inspire us all.
