Man Found Guilty on Assault of Richmond University Medical Center Nurse

Yesterday, the Richmond County District Attorney’s office announced that a man who assaulted his roommate then a registered nurse at Richmond University Medical Center was found guilty and will be sentenced on October 10th to 30 months in prison and three years post supervision.

The state Supreme Court ruling was handed down after the defendant received a court-ordered psychiatric exam to determine if he was mentally fit to stand trial. He was ultimately charged with second-degree assault, the maximum requested by prosecutors.

“Nursing is a profession dedicated to helping others, the highly charged nature of many of the environments in which nurses work can lead to situations where emotions and acts of violence occur.

Egregious acts of aggression be they verbal or physical are entirely unacceptable, whether delivered by patients or colleagues. These incidents not only have a serious effect on the wellbeing of the nurse in question but also their ability to care for their patients,” said Assemblyman Charles Fall.
