Governor Andrew M. Cuomo Announces Downtown Staten Island Will Receive $10 Million in Funding Under the Downtown Revitalization Initiative Award

Today, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul announced at a press conference that Governor Andrew Cuomo approved $10 million in funding for the North Shore of Staten Island through the 4th cycle of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

New York State, in collaboration with the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC) and the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, earmarked the funding and investments from a statewide program that is set to help communities boost their economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods where the next generation of New Yorkers will want to live, work and raise a family.

With the recent and current revitalization of downtown Staten Island which provides state-of-the-art civic, commercial and cultural centers, this award will enable Downtown Staten Island to capitalize on the continuation of rapid growth and focus development efforts on creating world –class venues for the Bay Street Corridor that runs from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and historic St. George neighborhood to the Stapleton and Tompkinsville area.

“I need to thank Governor Cuomo, Borough President Oddo, my colleague Senator Diane Savino, the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Staten Island Downtown Alliance for their continued commitment to the revitalization of Staten Island throughout this competitive process.

“You can be assured that I will continue to advocate for a North Shore bus rapid transit system, clean and safe open space, waterfront accessibility and development and expansion of cultural arts for the North Shore,” said Assemblyman Charles D. Fall.
