Assemblymember Lavine Welcomes Vietnam War Memorial Replica

North Hempstead, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) attended a special ceremony at North Hempstead Beach Park today where those lost in the Vietnam War were remembered. Lavine, Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, and other elected officials, welcomed the arrival of a traveling half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The wall pays tribute to the 58,276 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. It is located at the North Lot of North Hempstead Beach Park (175 W. Shore Rd.) in Port Washington and will be viewable 24 hours a day from today through Sunday, October 17.

“Many of my childhood friends did not come home from Vietnam so this wonderful traveling memorial holds special meaning in my heart. Those who fought did so with the best of intentions – despite not being fully supported by the government that sent them or by its citizens. The valor, duty, and sacrifice of those brave men and women is unquestioned,” Lavine said.
