Assemblymembers Burdick, Levenberg, and Shimsky Respond to Joint Proposal in the Con Edison Rate Cases

Westchester County, NY State Assemblymembers Chris Burdick, Dana Levenberg, and MaryJane Shimsky released the following statement addressing the recent release of a joint proposal in this year’s Con Edison rate cases:

"Our offices joined the Con Edison rate cases as intervenors because our constituents are already struggling to pay their utility bills and would not have been able to afford the rate hikes proposed by Con Ed in their initial filing. We are proud of the coordinated effort we mounted alongside our municipal and Westchester County colleagues to rein in utility costs for our constituents. This effort bore some fruit, evidenced chiefly by the rates in the joint proposal, which are substantially lower than what Con Ed initially proposed. However, we feel that Con Ed can do better, and we will be submitting a statement in opposition to the joint proposal. We will have more to say about this at a later date, and we will not stop fighting for affordable energy costs. We encourage everyone in the Con Ed territory to continue submitting comments until the public comment period closes on Friday, November 21."

Ratepayers in the Con Edison territory who have not already submitted testimony or participated in a public statement hearing can submit testimony online, by mail, or by calling the Public Service Commission’s Opinion Line.
