Assemblyman Daniel Norber (R,C-Great Neck) Statement on Bipartisan Press Conference on Veteran Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

“Veteran suicide is a crisis that demands our full attention and a united response. I was proud to stand alongside The Long Walk Home Founder Ron Zaleski, Assemblyman Keith Brown (R,C-Northport), Assemblyman Steve Stern (D-10th AD) and other Long Island assemblymembers to shine a light on the urgent need for awareness, prevention and meaningful support for our veterans.

“Having served as a staff sergeant in the Israeli Defense Forces, I know firsthand the weight of military service and the lasting impact it can have long after the uniform is taken off. Ron Zaleski’s tireless advocacy and experience remind us that behind every statistic is a family, a friend and a life that matters.

“Supporting our veterans must rise above politics. I remain committed to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and community advocates to expand access to mental health resources. I have recently joined members of my conference in sponsoring a proposal (A.5408) that would help create and operate a specialized mental health program for law enforcement, first responders and active and former service members. I will continue working to strengthen outreach and honor our obligation to those who have served.”
