Assemblywoman Judy Griffin's Statement on Governor Hochul's Budget Proposal

“Governor Hochul’s budget proposal makes important investments that I support, including a $3.7 billion commitment to clean water, continued increases in school aid, and responsible fiscal choices that avoid raising income taxes on New Yorkers, while maintaining and strengthening a focus on public safety. I am encouraged by the proposed investment of $38.5 million to support businesses based in Nassau County which provide technological innovation and financial services. I am pleased by provisions that reduce red tape and expand access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public spaces, a small but meaningful step that can save lives.

As negotiations continue, I will be advocating for stronger affordability measures, particularly to address rising utility costs and the growing challenge of buying or renting a home. Additionally, fully funding Universal Pre-K in suburban districts is essential in ensuring that every child has access to a quality education, as public schools on Long Island continue to face escalating costs in transportation, charter tuition, and special education services.

I look forward to working with my colleagues to strengthen this budget and ensure it delivers real affordability, safety, and opportunity for Long Island families.” - Assemblywoman Judy Griffin
