Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon Kicks Off Ice Cream Month with Celebration in Stittville

Stittville, NY – Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D–119) proudly kicked off National Ice Cream Month today with a joyful community celebration at Inside Scoop in Stittville, where she presented a formal Legislative Resolution honoring the importance of New York State’s dairy farmers and the enduring traditions that make ice cream a cherished symbol of summer.

Surrounded by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, local dairy producers, agricultural advocates, students from the Holland Patent FFA, and area families, the event underscored the vital connection between New York’s agricultural economy and the simple joys that bring people together.

“Oneida County is home to over 150 dairy farms, making it one of the largest dairy-producing counties in New York State, and behind every scoop of ice cream is a hardworking farmer and a proud family tradition,” said Assemblywoman Buttenschon. “Our dairy producers rise before the sun, care deeply for their animals, and provide the milk that fuels not only our economy, but moments of happiness across the state. Today is about honoring that work, and reminding New Yorkers that when you choose local, you support so much more than a product, you support a way of life.”

A proud member of the Assembly’s Agriculture Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Export Trade and Chair of the Committee on Small Businesses, Buttenschon hosted the event at Inside Scoop to spotlight the essential role of small businesses in rural communities.

“Ice cream is comfort, nostalgia, and celebration all in one,” she continued. “And at the center of it is a network of farmers and small business owners who pour their hearts into their work. As your representative, I will continue fighting to protect their livelihoods and ensure our local economy remains strong and resilient.”

According to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, the state is home to nearly 3,000 dairy farms that produce over 16 billion pounds of milk annually, making dairy the largest segment of New York’s agricultural industry and supporting over 26,000 jobs.

The resolution presented by Buttenschon, adopted by the State Assembly on June 10, formally memorializes Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim July 2025 as Ice Cream Month in New York State, aligning with the national observance.

“I want to thank the owner of Inside Scoop, Gary Cingranelli, for graciously opening his doors for today’s celebration and for creating a space that embodies the spirit of community and local agriculture. I’m also incredibly grateful to Lylah Riedman for serving every scoop with a smile,” said Buttenschon. “This kickoff is more than just a summer tradition, it’s a tribute to the hardworking people behind our dairy industry and a beautiful reminder of how strong we are when we support one another.”
