Media Invited to Landmark Conference Shining a Light on Women in Ag

Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia), the U.S. Department of Agriculture and NY FarmNet are hosting a Women in Ag Day Conference to build and support a network of women in agriculture in and around Livingston County. Dozens of participants have already signed up for this event, which the media is also invited to attend.

“Women have been significant in agriculture since humankind first began sowing seeds; however, women aren’t often part of the conversation about how our state views this industry,” said Byrnes. “As agriculture is an economic engine in New York, and women are leading more in this evolving industry, it is vital that we recognize the contributions women make and offer support and resources to help them succeed.”

At least 55 women have signed up for the event, recognizing this unique opportunity for the underserved demographic of women in agriculture. Byrnes hopes the Livingston County event will serve as a pilot project for other farming communities across the state and plans to share feedback with her colleagues at the state Capitol to see if there is legislation that could be drafted as a result of the event.

This free event will include a seminar on mental wellness and resilience, a free lunch provided by Byrnes, a panel discussion, exhibits and networking opportunities. For more information, email Stephanie Hann at hanns@nyassembly.gov or call her at Byrnes’ office at (585) 218-0038.
