Norris & Students Can “Heart-Ly” Wait To Brighten Seniors’ Valentine’s Day

Assemblyman’s Annual Valentines for Seniors Event Kicks Off at Eight Local Schools

Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) could “heart-ly” wait to kick off his annual Valentines for Seniors event this year. The assemblyman joined students in making valentines this year at Saint John the Baptist School in Alden, one of the eight participating elementary schools. The program involves students making valentines that are then delivered to local seniors with their meals in the 144th Assembly District.

“This is a heartwarming program that I’ve really enjoyed participating in, especially since the pandemic highlighted how isolated many of our seniors are. It’s a wonderful way to connect the community and brighten everyone’s day,” said Norris. “These are the small acts of kindness that make Western New York such a wonderful place to call home and reminds us all of the importance of community. Thank you to all of the students, schools and senior organizations who are helping this year!”

Norris also mentioned that this week is Catholic Schools Week and commended Principal Jonna Johnson for her efforts to incorporate service projects like his ‘Valentines for Seniors’ program into the curriculum. He gave special thanks to Miss Corp’s 5th grade, Mrs. Beal’s PK-4, Miss Alison’s PK-3, and Miss Lana, a PK Aide.

The participating schools this year include Charles A. Upson Elementary, DeSales Catholic School, George M. Southard Elementary, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School, Pratt Elementary, Royalton-Hartland Elementary, Saint John the Baptist School, and Wilson Elementary School. The valentines will be delivered by Norris and his staff to senior citizens who live in assisted living facilities, participate in senior centers or are clients of Meals on Wheels. Participating senior facilities this year include Brothers of Mercy in Clarence, Briarwood Manor in Lockport, Bristol Village in Clarence, Clarence Senior Center, GreenField Court Assisted Living Facility in Lancaster, Heritage Manor of Lockport, Lockport Rehab and Health Care Center, Mount View in Lockport, and The Dale Association in Lockport.
