Norris & Santa Deliver Joy, and Hundreds of Toys to Children at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital Through Christmas in July Toy Drive

Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) was joined by Santa Claus to deliver hundreds of toys collected from the 144th Assembly District’s Christmas in July Toy Drive to children at the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH) in Buffalo. The goal of the drive is to bring joy to the children facing serious illnesses, such as cancer, who are unable to be outside enjoying summer like other children—and the community exceeded expectations in their generosity.

“As an assemblyman, the best part of my job is getting to help people and make a real difference in someone’s life, but I’ll admit that nothing compares to bringing joy to these kids and their families and knowing how our community has answered the call to support them when they need it most,” said Norris. “It’s truly uplifting for everyone involved, and I want to thank everyone who participated. From the individuals who donated to our libraries that partnered as drop-off locations and the community organizations that joined us to help, you all make Western New York proud and are the reason why this is such a wonderful place to call home. Thank you.”

“Our utmost thanks go to Assemblyman Mike Norris, his team and all donors that contributed to the success of yet another Christmas in July Toy Drive,” said Jessica Mabie, chief operating officer of Oishei Children’s Hospital. “The toys and games we receive from this annual drive are so very important as we try to create a distraction and sense of normalcy for the patients in our hospital. Thank you for supporting OCH!”

Norris first launched his Christmas in July Toy Drive before the pandemic and was thrilled to be able to resume it this year. He reached out to libraries within the 144th Assembly District to act as drop-off locations for the public and would like to thank the libraries in Lockport, Clarence, Newfane and Wilson for participating. Additionally, he would like to thank the Lions Clubs of Barker and Ridings, the Lockport YMCA, Cornerstone Federal Credit Union, Elks Lodge #41 of Lockport, Clarence Youth Bureau, Craft Coffee House in Pendleton and Windsor Village Shoppes in Lockport for their generosity as well.

This year, in addition to the toys that were donated in person, the public was able to donate toys via the children’s online gift registry. The registry is ongoing for those who would like to continue to support children or their families. Please contact Assemblyman Norris’ district office at 716-839-4691 for more information.
