Norris Invites All To Participate In Upcoming Events

Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C,I,Ref-Lockport) would like to invite constituents to participate in a number of community events he is sponsoring this spring. The events include his annual Boating Safety Course, inaugural Memorial Day Poster Contest, his legislative survey, as well as efforts to promote volunteer firefighter recruitment. Furthermore, the assemblyman encourages the public to sign up to register as an organ donor in recognition of April being National Organ Donor Awareness Month.

APRIL IS ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS MONTH

“It takes only a few minutes to sign up to become an organ donor and being one can allow you to help save as many as eight other lives,” said Norris, who is himself an organ donor and voted this week in support of a legislative resolution to help promote organ donation in the state. Please go to https://donatelife.ny.gov/ to learn more or sign up. You can also sign up when renewing your drivers’ license.

BOATING SAFETY COURSE MAY 14 & 16

Did you know New York State law requires boat operators who were born on or after May 1, 1996 and are at least 10 years old to get certified in boat safety? Did you know this law also applies to people who are 14 years old or older operating a personal watercraft like a Jet Ski? If this applies to you or you would just like to potentially save money on your insurance, please consider signing up for the assemblyman’s Boating Safety Course which will be administered and certified by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. This year the course will be held over two evenings, Tuesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 16, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Niagara County Public Safety Building in Lockport. You must attend both evenings in order to obtain full credit for the course. The course is free but space is limited, so please call the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office at (716) 438-3346 to reserve your space.

“FREEDOM ISN’T FREE” HIGH SCHOOL POSTER CONTEST

High school students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to help Norris show the community’s gratitude for the service of our military and veterans by participating in his inaugural Memorial Day Poster Contest. This year’s theme is “Freedom Isn’t Free,” and posters can be submitted using any artist medium, but should be on 8X14 or 11X17 paper. Prizes will be awarded to the top winners. To learn more or submit your poster design, please contact the assemblyman’s office in Clarence at (716) 839-4691.

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER OPEN HOUSE RECRUITMENT DRIVE APRIL 27 & 28

Anyone looking to save money on their property taxes, earn scholarships for college or simply for an opportunity to serve the community, is encouraged to attend RecruitNY weekend open houses at our local volunteer fire companies April 27 and 28. At these open houses, you can learn more about the benefits of volunteering as a firefighter or emergency responder. Norris is an avid supporter of volunteer fire companies and has worked hard to increase benefits for those who do serve. To learn more, please go to www.fireinyou.org or contact your local volunteer fire company.

MIKE NORRIS’ 2019 LEGISLATIVE SURVEY

Additionally, all constituents of the 144th Assembly District are invited to participate in Norris’ 2019 Legislative Survey. Many responses have already come in by mail and via the online survey but there is still time to share your views by participating. To fill out the survey, please go online to the assemblyman’s website (https://nyassembly.gov/mem/Michael-J-Norris) and click on the survey link.

“Serving you is my top priority, and I hope that these events will help improve the lives of constituents as well as foster a sense of community. So many people have participated in my survey already, but there is still time to share your voice. I can’t wait to share the results with the public and to continue my efforts to best represent you at our State Capitol,” said Norris.
