Assemblyman Colton Seeks Nominations for Inaugural Men of Distinction Awards

Well aware of the numerous community members who unstintingly give of themselves to improve the neighborhood in which they live, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) will be launching his Men of Distinction Awards later this year.

The event, which will take place on June 8, at 2 p.m., at FIAO’s Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11214, is intended to shine a spotlight on the contributions of southwest Brooklyn’s unsung heroes whose selfless efforts make a difference in the community.

For this reason, Assemblyman Colton is asking local leaders, residents and businesspeople to nominate men who they believe deserve the recognition. The goal is to ensure that the men receiving the award represent the diversity of the area, and represent a wide range of achievements. Nominees can have made their mark in business, education, humanitarian work, military service, community/civic affairs, health care, government or volunteerism.

“I am constantly in awe of the neighborhood residents who make time in their busy schedules to work on behalf of the community, helping in a myriad of ways, from cleaning up our crucial shopping strips to advocating on behalf of their neighbors,” said Assemblyman Colton. “They do this not for recognition or kudos, but simply because it is the right thing to do, and they understand that their efforts on behalf of their community will reap tremendous benefits, not only for them, but for the entire neighborhood.”

Nominations can be submitted to Assemblyman Colton’s office by emailing coltonw@nyassembly.gov or calling 718-236-1598. The deadline for nominations to be received is Friday, May 23.
