Assemblyman Colton, Councilmember Zhuang Looking for Volunteers to Join First Community Cleanup of the Season
Are you interested in taking part in a local cleanup? If so, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D— Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park) are encouraging you to join their team of local volunteers at their first community cleanup of 2024, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Assemblyman Colton has led neighborhood cleanups focusing on the area’s busy commercial corridors for over a decade, joined in the past several years by Councilmember Zhuang, his then-chief-of-staff, and both encourage scout troops, school service organizations and community groups, as well as individual volunteers who want to pitch in for a few hours, to join them in the endeavor. The upcoming cleanup is the first of several sponsored by the duo that will take place through the summer and fall.
“Neighborhood cleanups are so important,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Not only do they help enhance daily life in our community, benefiting both residents and the businesses they patronize, but they also teach young people who participate an important lesson – that they can make a difference in the community they call home. This is an invaluable lesson that they will take with them into adulthood as they continue their dedication to the community and their fellow residents. Keeping the neighborhood clean is so important. It really helps maintain the quality of life, and I am committed to doing my part to keep this corner of Brooklyn beautiful and thriving.”
“Everyone deserves clean and safe streets. When our city will not take action, I am proud to step in. I am delighted to partner with Assemblyman Colton to hold a community cleanup and help keep our community clean. Together, we can keep our streets and sidewalks clean so that everyone can enjoy what our community has to offer,” said Councilmember Zhuang.
Participants will meet on the day of the cleanup at 29 Bay 25th Street. Supplies will be provided, and there will be pizza for participants after the cleanup has concluded.
