Maher Calls for Responsible State Budget as Process Faces Delays

A statement from Meghan Hurlburt, Assemblyman Brian Maher's chief of staff

Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) announced the passage of today’s budget extender, noting that the Majority has yet to deliver an on-time state budget.

“While the budget process continues, it’s important that we remain focused on delivering a final product that is efficient, effective and timely,” said Meghan Hurlburt, chief of staff to Assemblyman Maher. “School districts throughout our state are held hostage every year by late budgets in Albany and that is unacceptable. When school districts don't know how much aid they will receive, it forces schools to cut programs and positions that negatively impact our children and our communities. Families and service organizations across our state face rising costs, and they deserve a budget that reflects these challenges and provides meaningful and timely relief.”

Hurlburt added that Maher remains committed to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move the process forward and ensure the final budget supports affordability, strengthens communities and delivers for New Yorkers.
